Misuse and reporting misuse

You should only use your Blue Badge if:

  • you’re travelling in a vehicle as a driver or passenger
  • someone is collecting you or dropping you off and needs to park

A Blue Badge should not be used to park in a restricted area if the badge holder is not leaving the car.

Warning: It's a criminal offence to misuse a Blue Badge

Report a lost, stolen or misused Blue Badge

You should tell your local council and the police if your Blue Badge has been lost or stolen.

You should also contact your local council if:

  • a Blue Badge is being misused by someone else
  • a Blue Badge holder has died

Blue Badge inspection

Police officers, counter-fraud officers and parking attendants can inspect badges. You can ask to see their identity card if you’re unsure.

They can remove a Blue Badge if it’s:

  • cancelled
  • being misused
  • forged
  • expired
Information: If your badge is removed by mistake, it will be returned within 14 days.
